Where do I register my script?

“Where do I register my script?” or “How do I protect my artwork?”
A lot of writers and artists have faced this question when learning the ins and outs of intellectual property protection. There are a lot of options out there.
Write Vault is new to the block, so you’re probably wondering if we’re a good place to start. We can emphatically say YES, we are the most high tech, speedy and inexpensive service to protect your work*.
Register your screenplay
Register your novel
Register your short stories
Register your teleplays
Register your song lyrics (and music sheets)
Register your design patterns (etsy and more)
Register it all!
But don’t take our word for it.
This is what a few of our customers have to say about Write Vault and how they protect their work:
“I highly recommend Write Vault’s Document Registration services. Their services are particularly important if you’re a prolific writer of varied projects with multiple versions. I blog, I write screenplays, teleplays, and poetry. Write Vault allows me to protect my work quickly and easily, and at a reasonable cost.”
Angelo Bell
Filmmaker, Screenwriter
“I think this is a great alternative for copyright, especially as you continue on as a writer changing things up. This way you’re only paying for the copyright when you are truly “finished”. It’s peace of mind when you share an idea of your’s too.”
Lisa Todd
Filmmaker, Screenwriter
“Write Vault is a great place to register your work. It is inexpensive, easy-to-use, and I have the option of making my projects public or not. I can direct people interested in my work to the Write Vault website where they can download the scripts I’ve decided to share with the public. In the time I’ve used it, I’ve been incredibly impressed not only with the functionality of the website, but the speedy and insightful response from the Write Vault team.”
M. Robert Turnage
Screenwriter
But what about copyrights? Shouldn’t I copyright my work instead?
When your document is finished and ready for sale, YES, always get a copyright.
HOWEVER, by registering with Write Vault and uploading your initial work (first drafts, initial designs), you are creating a long trail of authorship and creation with each subsequent registered draft. THAT combined with a copyright is the best weapon against intellectual property theft.
We recommend registering your very first draft, especially if you send your work out for feedback. There’s no reason not to protect this first run document, because a registration at Write Vault is only $10.00 for 10 years of protection. Send your work out for review with peace of mind knowing it’s protected.
If you have any questions about what types of work we accept for protection, please visit our Frequently Asked Questions area.
* In matters of U.S. Evidence Law, electronic files are admissible in a court of law as evidence, IF the file is archived to a remote third-party website where neither the plaintiff or defendant has access to the file. In other words, Write Vault is on equal standing with the WGA, ProtectRite, and Creator’s Vault with added perks such as a verification service (visitors can verify the registration of a project via the website).
